Six Apart – Blog It Application Generates Multiple Entries

For some reason Six Apart’s Blog It Facebook application is generating multiple entries to the website when posting from work.

In other news I’m looking in to options for creating a Photo Gallery within Movable Type, in order to bring all my photos online.

Big East Adds Another Bowl

I’m simultaneously excited and amused by today’s news that the Big East added another bowl and upgraded another. On the one hand, there are already so many bowls out there this announcement makes the whole college football “post-season” seem even more bloated. On the other hand, this announcement makes the Alabama bowl moderately more interesting since that bowl now involves an SEC opponent and the other bowl is at least in Florida, where the weather will be a whole lot better than Toronto.
Now Rutgers just needs to win the Big East and go to a BCS bowl so none of this will matter.

Six Apart’s “Blog It”

Having upgraded to use Movable Type on my personal website, I now get to take advantage of these new integrated services like the Facebook “Blog It” application. We’ll see how well this works.

Content Complete

All the old website content going back to 2003 has been imported now, along with all the comments.  The only downside to adding in about 885 entries is that a full site publish takes about 15 – 20 minutes.

On a related note, Movable Type really needs to update their import documentation.  The import format is FAR more strict than the examples make it appear.  For instance, the BODY: key cannot containing any trailing spaces.  Same thing with the COMMENT: key.  These two issues forced me to have to reload the entries several times before all the data would load completely.

Still, with that out of the way, I’m free to get back to blogging.

P.S.  What’s the point of a Backup and Restore functionality that doesn’t actually have the ability to Restore?

No Thank You, Notre Dame

Rutgers said no to Notre Dame last week about a potential Rutgers – Notre Dame six game football series, due to the location and ticket sales arrangements that would be required.

“Rutgers entered discussions about a possible long-term series with
Notre Dame, but at the end of the day both schools could not agree
about the site of the games,” said Rutgers Director of Athletics Robert
E. Mulcahy III.  “We feel Rutgers’ home games should be played
on-campus in Rutgers Stadium.”

Today the NY times had a great column on the situation, providing more context on why the series failed to materialize and how Rutgers refused to kowtow to the mighty Notre Dame.

Old Content

I’ll be trying to extract and load all my old entries in to the new system later tonight, so there may be some strange behavior on the site during that time.  Stay tuned for more.

Tough Day at Work

Today was a tough day for my employer.  News of two FDA Not Approvable letters came out; the first about our Schering Plough Joint Venture product combining Singulair and Claritin and the second about our extended release Niacin table called Cordaptive.

I’m surprised by both and am curious considering no reasons have been identified yet that I’ve read for the rejections. Plus, as a user of both Singulair and Claritin, it would be a huge boon to only have to purchase and take one set of pills, not two.  Hopefully the JV will get the FDA to re-evaluate.

What to Expect

So after about an hour of playing around with this system, I’m impressed by the functionality that’s been made available.  Certainly there are a lot more options than my old home-grown rinky dink setup offered.  With that in mind, though, I’m left with three major pieces of work.

1.  Get all my old content imported in to the system.  Easier said than done, since it’s not exactly in the right format.  Somehow, over the next week or two, that is site priority number one.

2.  Get off these horrible default style templates.  They may work as a short-term alternative, but they are NOT pretty.  Not that I’m a web design genius, but something a little more personal goes a long way.

3.  Start blogging again. 🙂
