Finally Family Cirus Gets Funny

Someone decided to remix the awesome power of Nietzche’s quotes with the single pane “funny” of Family Circus to come up with an improved version that is downright hillarious. After a few refreshes through the list, it becomes frightening how well the two line up.

Some of my person favorites are below.

Is life not a thousand times too short…
We must be physicists…
All truly great thoughts…
The best weapon…

Whirlwind

I was reflecting on my upcoming travels as I was booking some hotel rooms last night when it dawned on me – I have a LOT of travel planned for the next 8 months. Between now and the beginning of June, I’ll have arrived and departed from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bangkok, Siam Reap (Cambodia), Tokyo, Toronto, Vienna, and Bucharest. That’s actually the most aggressive international travel schedule I think I’ve ever had, period.

Now I just need to win big so I can pay the credit card bills.

Planning Ahead

So, wouldn’t you know, I wake up this morning to the annuoncement of a good deal on NW/KLM from YVR-BUH (Vancouver to Bucharest, Romania, for those not versed in airline speak). Usually I dismiss these out of hand, since I’m nowhere near YVR, but this morning I figured I’d check it out.

Turns out it’s a relatively unrestricted, normally expensive, upgradeable coach fare.

Turns out it’s also available from Toronto.

All the way through the schedule.

With stopovers permitted both ways, pretty much anywhere in Europe you want.

For ~ $250 roundtrip, including taxes.

With all that being true, what else could I do? I booked a week split between Vienna, Austria, and Bucharest, Romania, the week of Memorial Day next year.

Now I just have to wait for the tickets to arrive.

Scenes from the Rutgers Locker Room

ESPN showed some video from the Rutgers locker room after their win over USF Friday night, which some posted to Youtube. Check it out while it’s still there.

RU RAH RAH

Rutgers wins again to go on to start 5 – 0, beating South Florida 22-20 in a nailbiter. Ito kicked a 53 yard field goal to put Rutgers up 22-14, with South Florida driving hard to the end zone to make it 22-20 with a touchdown. The failed two point conversion and muffed onside kick saved Rutgers at the very end.

Have I mentioned how freakin’ great it is to have a winning football team?

Lonelygirl as Art

So, in case you haven’t heard but actually cared, Loneygirl15 was a fake.

And, although I wasn’t shocked to find out, it really does become quite dull once the mystery is taken out of the story.

Pot Kettle Black

Why is it that on the one hand the House of Representatives is investigating HP for investigating its leakers while on the other hand it fails to protect journalists who publish leaks?

What the hell do you stand for?

Say What

I subscribed to CNN’s “Premium Service”, giving me access to streaming live video through CNN’s Pipeline program. Overall I’m pretty happy, the quality is decent and it works from any Internet-accessible computer. Given that I get access to CNN International, an improved version of CNN’s domestic US cable channel, I’m even happier.

However, it speaks volumes about your staff when you’re listening in the background to a weather report about a typhoon in Manila (The Philippines), and the reporter says “the storm is heading to Xialan or Zylan or whatever you want to call it”. Nice to know you put some professional effort in to your job.

No, I have no idea what the actual city name is. But this isn’t a professional blog, either.

Every Dog Has His Day

Here’s your ironic story for the day. Last week Dog the Bounty Hunter was arrested to face an extradition and charges in Mexico. About what, you might ask? Turns out the bust he and his fellows did on Max Factor heir Andrew Luster in Mexico, which launched their storied career and TV show, was illegal. According to Mexican law, bounty hunting is a crime. Kidnapping (illegal detention), too. When you throw in the fact that he and his crew essentially jumped bail, it makes a hell of a tale. Bounty Hunter busted for hunting bounties jumps bail and gets taken down by The Man.

Delicious.

Finally Football Not Foosball

Amazing.

Rutgers football cracked the top 25 for the first time in my life. ESPN’s writeup even started out with this bit.

No joke. Rutgers is ranked.

The Scarlet Knights, long a college football laughingstock, moved Sunday into The Associated Press Top 25 for the first time since the final poll of the 1976 season.
