Continental Leaves Skyteam on October 24, 2009

With Continental’s year-end earnings forecast, they announced an update on their alliance realignment after several months in limbo.  Continental leaves Skyteam on October 24th, with entry in to Star Alliance coming soon thereafter.

I’m going to miss Northwest, but with the takeover by Delta, I’m happy to switch to a CO-UA based alliance.  Of course, the devil is in the details.

Merck yesterday announced earnings which beat expectations.  Most important, the increased 2008 earnings increased the 2008 company scorecard results.

Can’t Stop Spending

I read this article last week on the NY Times website with some amusement.  Here’s my question: is money fungible?

These lines are what I’m referring to:

Mr. DiNapoli said in an interview with Mr. White that it was unclear if banks had used taxpayer money for the bonuses, a possibility that strikes corporate governance experts, and indeed many ordinary Americans, as outrageous. “The issue of transparency is a significant one, and there needs to be an accounting about whether there was any taxpayer money used to pay bonuses or to pay for corporate jets or dividends or anything else,” Mr. DiNapoli said in the interview.

If money is fungible (which basically means that any item of the type in question can be substitued for any other), then by definition taxpayer money was used for bonuses.  Even if it came from a separate line item in a “budget”, that’s just an artificial boundary.

3-2-1 Contact!

I’ve been trying the contacts (really, just “contact”, since I only need one for my left eye), and here’s the rundown.

Thursday (doctor visit) -worn

Friday – worn

Saturday – worn them with lots of frustration getting them in

Sunday – not worn

Monday – not worn; gave up

Tuesday – not worn; gave up

Wednesday – not worn

Thursday – not worn until doctor’s visit to check up on progress

Honestly, I love them once they’re in, but what a pain trying to get that little piece of plastic in my eye.

Getting Married

I’ve been exceptionally quiet, blog-wise, over the past few months.  And for a pretty good reason.  At the end of October, I proposed to my friend of several years and girlfriend of around a year and a half… and she said “yes!”.  November and December were hectic, with the holidays, the congratulations, and getting the wedding planning off the ground. And, of course, it grows and grows.

We’re really, really excited about it, though!  Having set the date for June 13, 2009, just ensures that we’ll have plenty to keep us busy between now and then.

The Standings Are In

The standings are now in for the Big East, and what becomes immediately obvious to me is this.  Had Rutgers had a swing of FOUR points in the Cincinnati game, Rutgers would be going to the Orange Bowl, not the Papajohns.com bowl.

This Kid Rocks (Oh, right, and Rutgers demolished L’Ville 63-14)

Rutgers absolutely schooled Louisville last night in their last regular season game, locking up a miscellaneous bowl bid to somewhere by way of putting on a clinic in the first half.

But that wasn’t the coolest part of the game – this kid was.  He rocked out to Bon Jovi with about 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter.
